Either way, requiring last name is a nice (and fairly painless) security improvement. PIN codes are fairly insecure and account numbers (I believe) are sequential. It makes it that much harder for someone to break into an account; while using a value that everyone knows about themselves.
Yeah, the North Koreans can't wait to put their hands on my SkyMiles account. Adding the name is just another hassle and makes logging in slower.
Maybe former WP members got something straightened out, but for me the new website adds nothing to the old one and takes away something instead.
