Instead, an RJ flight to JFK (the first to get canceled in weather or ATC flow control), a walk up a flight of stairs to the JFK terminal 2, a bit of a hike to the terminal 3 for the SkyTrain, and another trip through security at the UA terminal. How is their overall capability in terms of ability to get around?
They can get around just fine, not worried about the stairs, etc. There were no award tickets out of IAD for the dates they needed, thus the convoluted itinerary. Sounds like they should be okay as long as there are no delays. The earlier DL flight would give them a 6 hour layover. They are in 1st, but 6 hours is a long layover, even if they are in the IFL.
