Question My Jewish mother made me do it... Routing help SFO-JFK-NUE

OK, I posted a separate thread about SFO-NUE. I apologize if this is now abusive - I hope I'm not asking too many questions!

I have been requested to "stop at home" so I can fly to NUE with my brother. My family lives in NYC, I live in SFO.

So I am now trying to find routes from SFO <-> NYC, stop there for a day, fly to NUE, and then fly back to SFO (don't care if I have a stopover or not on the return). The idea would be that my brother & I could fly together on the way out, from NYC to NUE.

I don't have the first clue on how to book this nicely. I would love to take p.s. from SFO <-> JFK, and then it looks like Swiss Air is the cheapest and maybe a * alliance partner to NUE? Does this seem like a smart routing? Is Swiss Air a good airline to choose? Is it rediculous to book these as separate tickets? SFO <-> JFK on United, then JFK <-> NUE via Swiss Air...

Again, I'm sorry for the additional post. I am feeling a little overwhelmed with this trip. How do you regular international travelers handle this?!? There are so many options.

I don't know the first thing about SWISS Air.

and as for the Jewish mother comment, yes. It's all her fault. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhilb...layer_embedded for details. That video explains everything.
