I recently stayed at the Fishermen's Wharf and agree that it's a little overrated. If you do actually stay, I strongly recommend getting a room facing away from the pool.
The SFO Hyatt Regency is a very nice property, so if you can find a comparable rate there - I would second the previous recommendation to do so.
