Which route for driving from upstate to JFK this Saturday?
Hope to get some help from more experienced people...
I will be driving a one-way rental from up-state NY to JFK this coming Saturday. My flight departs from terminal 1 at 4:30, and missing it is not an option.
Usually, my favorite route to JFK is 80 - 280 - 95 and then Goetals and Verrazano bridges and Belt parkway. Typically 5 hours. But, looks like it is going to be raining Saturday, and the last two times I tried this route in the rain, it took me 6 and 7 hours, respectively. Will I be better off doing what Google maps suggests, taking the George Washington bridge? But I've heard that Van Wyck is legendary for being stuck?
Which one would you choose? Am I going to be safe enough if I allow 6 hours for driving and 30 min to return the car and reach the terminal? Is it easy to follow road signs to rental car return (National)?
It is my first time posting. Thanks in advance for your advice!
