Next time you stay at the Century Hyatt, take a good look at the huge chandeliers in the main lobby. Ther are thin cables running from each chandelier to the wall, ending in shock absorbers. This is to keep the cahndeliers from swinging back and forth during an earthquake.

I did exprience a small earthquake once at the Century Hyatt. Looking out the window at other tall buildings was a fascinating experience!
