I remember being on a PER-SYD flight when the CSM announced that the flight was a trial of in-flight sms technology and we were free to switch on our mobiles and send text messages. I sent one to a friend (who later confirmed that it came through at the time it was sent from 38,000 odd feet).

Would be interesting to see what exactly happened after this testing, I haven't heard much more about it going forward.
