there are tons of other minor inconsistencies in service - most of which doesnt really bother anyone.
I don't see why I can't politely ask. I usually fly with zero checked luggage anyway - so its not like I'm a consistent luggage/cost burden to UA.
I never said you shouldn't ask. I just think the answer should be no.
Even as a GS, I rarely get anythng for free. Want an upgrade - I better be prepared to support it, or I don't get it. Change to another flight which is not on the same day - be prepared to pay the add/collect. Them's the rules - love 'em or leave 'em.
