I asked at ORD for a STL UX flight operated by GoJet if they pre-tag or just tag as you board. The GA said "tag as you board".

He just handed a tag to those that needed one after scanning the BP. It was the same thing on the return from STL.

I guess if they want to tag it themselves, I would just let them do that.
