Don't. I think the average tourist stay in Athens is less than 24 hours, and there is a reason for that. Beyond the Acropolis and a few other things, there is not that much to see in Athens itself (compared to other parts of the country...) Spend a day or two there and the extra time on some other island (hydra is near Athens and is lovely!)
