I live and work in Pudong (very close to Grand Hyatt in fact) and I would say around 5% of the time the taxi driver will decide to try heading all the way down to the Nanpu Bridge to cross the river. A quick reminder to take one of the tunnels always does the trick - as soon as they realise you have some idea of where you are then the temptation to go the long way round largely disappears.
I did have an especially annoying taxi experience last night. Grand Hyatt to Hyatt on the Bund and he wanted to go to the Nanpu Bridge. Once corrected, he then tried to go up onto the elevated highway to take me to the northern part of the Bund, so I had to correct him again.
