Will I lose my 8k points associated with this card? If I can convince Citi to consolidate this into my PPE account, would that help avoid loss of the points? I had originally planned to spend 8k or more points before cancelling since the Amex points were the oldest ones earned, but I suspect the spent points would come from my "soonest to expire" points, not the ones from AMEX.
I also got 8K or so TYPs from the Plat AMEX which when I called to cancel the card, the retention guy converted the card to a Diamond card that earns 5x on EDS. The new TYN website now shows ALL TYP cards you ever have, incl those cancelled long ago. Very odd.

Despite the Plat AMEX is converted to a Diamond, the pts earned under Plat AMEX remain associated with the cancelled Plat AMEX. So whether you convert or not, does not seem to make any difference, from the display of TYN. The key is to make sure the TYN account is active by having at least one or more TYP cards / bank accounts stay active.

The only way to drain the Plat AMEX pt is to drain the account to near 0 as the pts because Plat AMEX pts have the longest expiration - 5 years versus other cards 3 years. I thought I have used up all the Plat AMEX pts, it turns out they would be the LAST batch to be drained, unless you get the account balance to 0 before start anew.

Someone has managed to get a letter in writing to confirm that as long as the TYN account is active, all points even from cancelled cards, remain good. However, as we all know, Citi can change its policy at a heart beat.

One way to preserve the value would be to claim the GCs or the Travel Certificates from Marriott, Hyatt and Ritz Carlton. I am seriously considering the Marriott certificates once I liberate all my flight pts.
