My guess is that the emails are being filtered or blocked by your ISP or your email client. The emails are badly formatted, causing them to look like spam. (Specifically, there are extra line-ending characters in the middle of the header, which causes the rest of the header to look like the body.) In short, the mail looks like junk (no "From:" among other problems) and so is likely to be blocked by even moderately aggressive spam filters.

When I tried it a second time for my son I got the e-mail and when I entered his code it said it had already been used.

At least I have 1 so far. Although it feels like it was work to get it having to search through the jumbled e-mails.
The email is jumbled because it's poorly constructed by AA; it's not your spam filter doing it (but the corruption is likely to trigger your spam filter). It looks like there is no "From:" because of the problem with how it was created. Likewise, it isn't properly recognized at HTML so it may be very hard to read.
