I think yes, but YMMV depending on property, FD agent, whether they know what a Dia is, and how full it is. Mostly when I stay at SS, it's pretty full, so I get what I booked (usually 1 bedrm). At one unusually empty property, FD specifically noted Dia status and let me pick whatever room I wanted. A few other times, I've ended up in 2 bedrm when I only booked 1. (Then again, at SS Pleasant Hill, like
kevino, I also always get stuck in a studio...but maybe 'cause I check in late and it's always packed?) Hard to count on getting "upgraded" because rms may sell or fill out before you check in, especially if the property is smaller; if you're counting on that extra bedrm, better book it. SS seems to be real popular with kids sports teams traveling to meets, and big noisy families wanting 2 bedrms.
1 vs. 2-bedrm are basically the same, just with an extra bedrm+full bath (almost mirror imaged) on the other side of the living area. Otherwise, for a Dia upgrade, there's no signficantly better rm ('cept maybe quieter location, or closer to door/pool or corner, etc.), unless you booked a studio. In that case, the 1 or 2-bedrm is better (more roomier, and real walls+doors separate the sleeping from living/kitchen areas). The most usable Dia benefit at SS seems to be late checkout and the amenity bonus...if they post it right.
