1. I get that outsourcing is the way it works in many cases.
2. I do NOT approve of the manner in which Hyatt handled this issue. It disgusts me.
3. I do NOT approve of the Governor of my state (ugh) sticking his nose in.
SO, to add something new to the conversation:
The Boston-area Hyatts (cambridge in particular) have been doing a number ON THEMSELVES for many years now, so their assertion that they are doing what they have to in order to survive is garbage.
For several years now, the Cambridge Hyatt has housed student from Boston University overflow (no space in dorms) for the long term. You tell me: As a business or family traveler, do YOU want to pay top dollar to stay in a place that is a few steps away from being Animal House? Do YOU want to eat in the revolving restaurant while a bunch of barely-21 (if even) college student pound beers at the hotel bar?
I don't!
So if Hyatt wants to whine about the "business climate" and the lowering of their average nightly rates and its effect on revenue, blah blah blah, maybe they ought to take a walk up and down the halls of the Cambridge Hyatt and see what HYATT itself is doing to contribute to this downturn.
you make a good point about the dorm part
USC does this at the Radisson across the street from campus as well
