As I think what about what has been said so many times in the past, in other debates over the seating policy, to those of us who complained about not being able to assign seats in advance when travelling CW on a discounted fare, while holding no status in the BAEC.
”This is clearly a business model that BA consider to work for them & therefore we should just accept it or fly another airline” or some such sentiment & that we should just suck it up, or move off elsewhere.

To be fair (to me at least!) I have stated the above on both policies (today, just minutes apart!)
As a mainly Y+W flying Blue, this is not going to serve me well when in Y but will perhaps be a benefit in W. I'm against it as a whole, mainly due to the edge towards LCCism but agree with you that it provides options to those who didn't have them before, I'd be a bit peeved if I was a silver though and not able to choose a Y/W exit seat without paying for the privilege, for them, this is a major erosion of their benefits.
