If you're Silver you still get to assign seats for free !!
If you hold no status, BA now offer you the choice to assign in advance for a fee.
Better than no choice at all in my book ^
The perception is that status holders (eg in CW) will be losing a wider range of seat selection as non-status travellers will have had the chance to bag a seat ie status travellers may have less available seats to chose from.
