This is interesting to note. I average 65K or so on AS. But I fly HNL and ANC for at least 50% of my travel and BDL on NWA, so perhaps, since these are not the cheapest fares on AS/NWA it will not be transparent on qualification on revenue especially on partner airlines (if any)? Is the UA Global Service posted anywhere? Is the general opinion it will be somewhere around the 100K mark for just miles or more around the 75K mark? That still seems somewhat high for the routes AS is on. May need to book a couple of Mexico flights next year.
If there is a spend factor involved why would you think your spend on NW, or any other partner, would affect your consideration for MVPP on AS?

Unless it comes in conjunction with an expanded mileage plan in general, like more upgrade options on partners, or benefits associate with international travel.
The "powers that be" @AS have emphatically repeated (for years now) that if a third tier was to be added MVPG benefits would not change. We'll see if they stick to that promise and if so for how long.
Except in a case like mine where one of the reasons I consider staying with AS is that Gold is their top level of benefits. I could switch to DL and be gold just as well but they have higher levels. So when AS platinum rolls out its one less reason to keep AS in my case
So just because you aren't in the top tier anymore you'd rather go somewhere else where you aren't top tier either?
Does not compute unless AS takes away any benefits from MVPG which they say won't happen.

I did 65k of pleasure last year, and thats about hit the limit for me. My business travel has been increasing this year, which reduced my free time, and I have no idea if I could pull off a platinum level at AS.
It would be smart to tell people a year in advance "hey, look what you could get". A soft rollout and announcement of such introduces a "random reward" for being a good customer, which would have quite a marketing effect on customers
They will be announcing a year in advance what the requirements of the new level will be. To "test the waters" there are allegedly plans to quietly award this level to a select few participants. My guess is it will be a small percentage of MVPGs who have been identified as flying an insane amount of BIS miles on AS metal and/or have a spend level of a predetermined and as yet undisclosed dollar amount with AS.
As for your stockpile of RDMs...have you considered donating them to a charitable organization?
