That's sort of correct, for the soft rollout- but there my understanding (from the MVPG Wine Tasting) is there will also be a revenue-based component for qualifying for MVPP (sort of like how United Global Services works). In other words, if you don't hit the MVPP mileage/segment threshhold, but you DO buy enough expensive tickets, you're also going to get a "shoulder tap".
This is interesting to note. I average 65K or so on AS. But I fly HNL and ANC for at least 50% of my travel and BDL on NWA, so perhaps, since these are not the cheapest fares on AS/NWA it will not be transparent on qualification on revenue especially on partner airlines (if any)? Is the UA Global Service posted anywhere? Is the general opinion it will be somewhere around the 100K mark for just miles or more around the 75K mark? That still seems somewhat high for the routes AS is on. May need to book a couple of Mexico flights next year.
