Also the flight from Key West AA4936 appears to have a poor timekeeping track record so i am concerned that we will not have enough time at the airport for luggage collection, immigration and then check in again with virgin. Please let me know what you think. We would consider driving back to mia (we are driving down) but its the weekend of Fantasy Fest so the roads will be busy. Its a short trip 4 nights at the W south Beach plus 4 nights at Sunset Key and a late checkout on the 29th from our oceanfront villa (so obviously want to make the most of that!!) Do you think ive planned the best travel option or is there an even better way to arrange the travel.
You're going to Fantasy Fest at the best time - before all the weekend crowds drive down from Miami. It's an awesome festival - like Mardi Gras but much more laid back.

Some thoughts on your itinerary, as my wife and I have always previously made the drive back to MIA for outbound flights rather than taking the short flight from Key West (prior to us moving here). It's a beautiful drive, and traffic should not be that bad in the middle of the festival (certainly it will be much worse on the weekend). It generally takes between 3.5 hours or so to drive to MIA from Key West (with a restroom stop and traffic backup here or there). I would strongly consider the drive - probably moreso for the scenic experience, but also eliminates the need to worry whether a random thunderstorm at either MIA or Key West will delay your flight - causing an overnight stay at MIA.

Anyway, I wish I had the decision to make - sounds like a great trip! Do yourself a favor and order a mojito at Maison Pepe's outdoor bar in Mallory Square.... You'll thank me afterword
