While in the UK, I'd like to use my BA Chase Visa (without a chip) - will this be readily accepted or cause any consternation in high street shops which accept Visa?
I also have a US Bank debit card too (with a pin) - would this be a better option? Just don't want to be 'embarrassed' at the check-out

You'll have no trouble using your BA Chase Visa card. When you hand it over to the check-out assistant you can mention it doesn't have a chip (if he/she hasn't already noticed) and he/she will swipe it in the normal way. Your debit card doesn't help. It will be swiped and treated like a credit card. Bottom line: no embarrassment in your future, unless you bust your credit line with all your shopping at the current exchange rate
