On a plane I generally like the aisle to give me room to stretch out. On any flight where I plan to sleep most of the flight I prefer a window.

For ground travel in third world countries I take the window as it allows me to control the air conditioning (open the window), control the curtain, buy things out of the window and if need be use it as an escape route. Fortunately I have never had the need to make a hasty exit.
