Hong Kong carry on limits ?

I didn't fly out of HKG for a while (usually connect coming from China). I remember from a while ago them making a fuss about my (US legal) roller board and I had to check it in but this was at least 2 or 3 years ago if not longer.
I came in on board with it from the US but what is the recent experience with UA and carry on policies out of HKG to the US ? I also have a computer backpack.

I am flying in paid C on UA (upper deck) and really no issue to store it in the cabinet but not sure I can get past UA check in or security.

What is the recent experience ?
