Ruby status travelling on BA allows you to check-in at business class desks and also gives priority standby/waitlisting. I would also assume it would be a factor in PFUGs (Op-ups) - although BA doesn't have a Ruby status equivalent, the status does display in the PNR when an FQTV membership number is added.
Waitlist priority is automated but for check-in privileges it appears some convincing is sometimes needed...
The other Ruby status benefit listed is that of preferred seating selection; with the caveat of depending on each member airline's seating policy. BA's policy does not recognise Rubies here.
