I'm sure you really mean "The best Chinese food in San Francisco is not in Chinatown" -- amusing Freudian slip though.

I think the Richmond district could "whup" the Sunset in the Chinese restaurant arena. Still, I understand why the OP prefers Chinatown, as it's more of a destination than are the residential districts.
