I do no forsee taking any international trips on Cathay until later in the year. Do have some domestic travel but American may not offer the best fares or connections.
RT in Y to Boston from SFO should do it I think (does AA fly to Hawaii from SFO? If not they probably connect through LAX), depending on what the PRECISE # of miles you need are. It will be close. You can buy internet on the plane anyway it's not that bad.
In response to your question, some people here have reported getting Club Miles with Mexicana. But why would you do that? You'll need to do two RTs. So other than going BA to LHR, JAL to NRT or CX to HKG, all of which are overkill, an east-coast round-trip seems to me to be the logical choice (although I think I did see like $400 RT SFO-NRT UA flights, not sure if JAL is trying to compete with that insanity or not).
