I don't know if it is or isn't illegal (that's what courts are for), but if it isn't illegal, it should be.
I used to look at ads from travel agencies/consolidators, etc. in the Sunday paper. I don't anymore because most are advertising prices without taxes and fees - and that's meaningless. Again, if that isn't illegal, it should be.
what other vendor that you do consumer business with shows the all-in price? your grocery store?, your electronics store?, your online discounter?, your bookstore?, your favorite hotel chain?? .....???
And neither are airlines required to provided all-in ...however does not mean I am not pissed UA has stopped doing it -- because I liked having it
But there is no solution in the "it's illegal path" unless you want to change the entire pricing approach for all american consumer businesses.
