Aircrew need neither shoe bombs nor liquid bombs to crash their aircraft and slaughter everyone aboard. They have the proven skills and training necessary to crash an aircraft without those things. So, why not exempt them? The risk of allowing aircrew through the checkpoint with these things is absolutely minimal. The good will that the TSA gains from the aircrew unions is worth far more.
