Officer- I'm sorry sir. May I know what nationality you are?
Me- Yes, I'm Taiwanese (I look Taiwanese, but have 25% American in me, but that was not relevant)
Officer- Yes sir. May I see your Taiwanese passport?
Me- I do not hold a Taiwanese passport.
Officer- But you just told me you are Taiwanese.
Me- Yes, but I do not possess one.
Officer- Well you certainly do not look like an American.
Me- Yes, but I was born in the United States, and I believe my being born there entitles me to a passport from the United States.
Officer- Thank you sir. Have a nice stay in Seoul.
Me- Thanks, I'll try.
My colleague also witnessed this aneurysm inducing exchange.
This interaction makes the average dimwitted TSA officer look like a college professor and I have never ever witnessed this amount of stupidity, even on U.S. soil.
Ah Koreans, pretty nice folks and more than a little xenophobic (for good reason). I think I would have asked him what Americans are supposed to look like.
