It appeared to me that the leak came from the fire sprinkler lines (my company used to have a division that sold various fire sprinkler piping products, and one of the reasons we sold the division was the huge liability claims we'd get when one of the lines leaked.) I fairly doubt that they would have renovated the sprinkler systems in the transition to HGI. I looked in the penthouse suite as well, and it appeared that the fire sprinkler line in one of the rooms of the suite was deteriorating in the same manner, based on how the ceiling looked, though it wasn't at leaking stage yet.

So yes, I would not be surprised myself if that's a chronic problem in the hotel in the next few months.
