I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. Just when I've got 5* at Hetz, and well on the way to PC - not to mention finally getting to grips with how the damn company works -, and the goalposts get well and truly uprooted.

Seems like the double miles with Hertz (the booking period for which conveniently ended last night @:-)) was a bit of a glorious sunset for the Hertz/ BMI partnership.

Some observations:

- the 200 mile bonus is now only awarded for bookings made online at flybmi.com, so you now have to choose between 7% Quidco cashback and 200 miles

- Europcar has some excellent rates for short (<6 hour) rentals, and for one-ways, when compared with Hertz. Quite good MR potential ^

- they also have much better IT. You can look through your past rental records online ^

- there doesn't appear to be an equivalent of #1 5* (except the pre-printed agreements). No free upgrades as far as I can tell

- it's the only rental car company I know with worst corporate customer relations than Hertz

- double miles until 31 Oct ^

The question is:

A) keep renting with Hertz, maintain status, somewhat better customer service, credit the miles to another programme (M&M?)

B) ditch Hertz, rent with no status and no upgrades, keep raking in the BMI miles
