I flew SJC-DEN last week with the exact same issue except I was in the middle seat and the POS was on the aisle. I suffered through my 3 inches less in seat width and wondered the whole time what UA's policy was. As I was to some degree trapped, I never had the opportunity for a quiet word with an FA. I did comment on the situation on the UAL survey, but know that nothing ever comes of that.
