Not that this is much help to you now, two days later, but we did have a case of gate checked bags (both hubby's and mine) not showing up at the gate at YWG. What happened was they were somehow mis-identified as regular checked baggage and ended up on the carosel with the previously-checked luggage. Just mentioning that so that people know it's a possibility if it happens to them.
