Business Class meals are definitely getting worse and the First Class meal I had ex-NRT last weekend was nothing more than mediocre. Since I had an op-up from C I'm not complaining and it was my first time on LH F, but compared with what I'd read in Trip Reports and my own experience I thought the standard of the meal was what Business Class meals used to be a few years ago.

The only things that distinguished this meal from Business Class meals were: a) the salad (with a choice of dressing) which has now been eliminated from Business Class, b) dressing for the first course which FAs had to squeeze onto the plate in front of you from small plastic containers, and c) freshly ground pepper. Cheese came ready sliced/cut and in very small pieces (I could have asked for more I guess…)

The second meal service on this 11.5 hr flight was 'dinner' according to the printed menu but actually consisted of assorted small dishes. I opted for a Japanese meal which was more substantial than cold and hot snacks my seat neighbour had, but it was on a par with a Japanese meal in C on the outbound ex-Germany. The only difference was that the Japanese meal in Business was the main meal while the First Class meal in question was a second service.

Airlines are cutting costs but there must be a way to cut costs without making inflight meals almost inedible especially in C.
