I sent an email to Amex on 2/18 and received a positive response today. No mention of an apology or sorry but they are adding the 2500 points. Poor customer service.

Here it is:

I have transferred 2,500 bonus points to your Hilton Honors account number xxxxxxx. The points will post to your account within three to five business days.
