this aa.com page, BA K, L, M, N, O and G, Q, S, V fare classes only earn 25% of miles flown. On BA "very cheap tickets" mean "very low miles".
The revenue upgrades BA offers through its website are more of an "upfare" than an "upgrade" - your ticket gets rebooked into a higher bucket, with all the positive implications that has for mileage earning.
The Ashes Deal booked into N-Class, so 25% is the correct rate. I find that very stingy indeed, but it's the way it is and what you have to deal with when you fly BA in Y.
