If you really want to talk about hotels with inadequate outlets just look internationally, you generally have zero for US plugs.

They are pricey for what you get, but I went with the Monster Outlets-to-go 4 outlet strip after they confirmed to me in an e-mail that the pilot light wouldn't be damaged by plugging it into a 240V outlet. It's nice to carry only one plug adapter -- just make sure everything you travel with can use the local voltage. Confirm that it worked fine in Ireland, UK, and Australia.

The Monster has a nice form factor for travel with the short self-locking cord and for under $20 I'll probably use it for a lifetime.
