I wouldn't worry about any 'prevailing mood' if there is one. Most of us have opinions one way or the other.

FWIW I think most passengers with ski equipment on their way to Switzerland are better served by LX who make no extra charge and who have reasonable catering in economy.

I'd find it difficult to justify the extra expense of paying for ski equipment unless it was a last chance opportunity of earning TPs for requalification.
