My suspicion is that the franchise with Sun Air is actually a holdover from the time when BA were interested in branding other airlines in the EU with their colours: hence Deutsche BA, and that French airline that flew in BA colours (I think: can't remember the name).

So then Sun Air would be a remnant of that strategy. But the question still remains: why does it still persist when BA divested from the others?
