This is my experience also. A note to CR is essential.
Note that this red e-eye flight is somewhat notorious for lack of service (in any cabin). The crew having completed a sojourn in HKG are often are more tired than when they arrived. They need to relax after that, so service levels do often fall - stuff the PAX!
I repeat - a complaint to CR is essential.
