Umm, no. Metal in shoes is not a phenomenon that was invented post-9/11. I wore a wide variety of shoes before 9/11 in the US when passing through checkpoints, and still do today in every other country I travel to, and not once has the WTMD triggered. Nor have I noticed masses of people getting caught out by the same. Metal in shoes is far less common than you would have us believe.
