I agree with everything you said except this point...I find Hongqiao to be a nightmare most of the time groud transportation wise. If one is willing to use the maglev-subway combo from Pudong I think all points east of Jingan Temple are easier to reach from Pudong. Traffic on the Yan'an road from Hongqiao is never pleasant and often unbearable. At night time when the traffic may be OK there is usually a 30 minute wait for a cab at Hongqiao and all the busses stop running around 9pm. With good timing PVG-Nanjing West can take 45 mins and it's stress free using the maglev-subway.

This will all change when the subway is extended to Hongqiao but thats not until next year I think.
