It certainly happens the other way round - a codeshare AUS-DFW or AUS-ORD is enough to grey out the upgrade options for the TATL as well. Since the UK Domestic is single class it would seem likely that's enough to disable online upgrades as well, though you are apparently able to do this over the phone.

Another point is you probably need to be prepared to pay whatever change fee your (presumably UK issued?) ticket is subject to - ex-US that's now a $250 penalty for MFU's not made with the initial reservation.
