I always laugh when people say how easy it is to redeem standard awards on DL. This has not been my experience at all. When there are no awards to certain destinations over an entire year, does that not concern you? I have had little success with DL standard awards, domestic or international, even when being extremely flexible. It was MUCH easier on CO. In fact, had to burn CO miles on my last trip. Ironically, the majority of the flights were on DL/NW. There was plenty of availability on CO and AS flights as well.
