I think I have bad luck

Unfortunately, I bought the pass from a ticket agent instead of a machine. So, I don't have a receipt.

I spoke to an agent at Fulton-Broadway-Nassau station, who had asked me to swipe through his "special" machine. Unfortunately, there was no reading on my card ("Please swipe again"). The agent did open the doors and let me into that particular instance. But I don't want to do that every time I want to get onto the subway. Plus, the next agent might not be understanding. I did not attempt to use the same card within a short period of time (at least 45 minutes in between my last use)

Has anyone ever gotten a cash refund from MTA? I had called the customer service line and the voice recording made it clear that there is no cash refunds for defective cards.
