On almost all CX flights, the meal service is soon after take off, and the second meal is 2 hours before landing. Then there are snacks on demand (noodles, sandwiches). Rarely do any flights deviate from this as the idea is to allow the passenger to sleep for as long as possible in the middle.
But on one of the HKG - JFK routes (forget which one) they serve the second meal midflight. They changed it from a pre-arrival flight, to about 8-9 hours in a few years ago. Got a rude shock last time I did it in J, as I wasn't expecting all the lights to come on for a meal service. Quite annoying. Not sure if they do the same JFK-HKG. Have only done that in F last few years.
