If you are based in the US, you can get the Chase Visa card that will give you 1 mile per $ spent on regular stuff and 2 miles per $ for BA spend, so the miles will rack up quite quickly.
Alternative (for which you don't need to change your BAEC membership country) is to apply for the AMEX SPG card. 1 SPG point per $, and then convert 20K points to 25K BA miles. No bonus on BA spend though (but double miles on SPG stays).
