After doing a bit more research it looks like getting a 3 day pass for my one way travel along with the cost of reservations is cheaper than booking the individual segments. It may be because of the 20% off on the pass from the current promotion going on. I'm not sure if I would have to pay for any train supplements though?
The details depend on the pass. But in general, it is hard to make it worth it. Getting the seat reservations is critical and that's as much trouble as buying the ticket. Or just use Regionales, no reservations and no supplements with a pass as well.
