I would have even less control on a "real" airline in this scenario, because my only choice would be to pre-select A/B, B/C, or A/C (assuming this is not an RJ). At that point, I'd either be guaranteed a middle, or taking my chances if they let me pre-select A/C (and many times they won't).

I much prefer having a fightin' chance on my favorite fake airline.
