Mini report September 2009
Preface: In PVG as a tourist. It has been a number if years since I was here.
Status: Diamond.
Rate: Used points to book regular room.
Transportation: As has been stated you can cab in from PVG and probably save some time. I wanted to try the Maglev so took that. I bought a vip ticket and after showing my boarding pass the rate was 80 RMB. Twenty RMB discount. The trip was quick with the top speed 301 kmh. Upon arrival at the Maglev station took a cab. The rate would have been 28 RMB but tipped the driver out.
Check-in: I had contacted the Hotel prior to my arrival. Upgraded to deluxe king room. If I was supposed to be offered a amenity like points was not. Also told nothing about breakfast which I called down about. Can take on 87 for "free" per agent. I also should have asked for a room with a Bund view but occupied. My MC was declined and after calling Citi told it was because I had been upgraded to some stupid level with "more" services. I was supposed to activate the "new" card they sent me. No wonder they are in such financial straits. I have felt nothing at all warm from the staff. Robots.
Perks: As noted. Also had a item in my room aka snack upon arrival. My butler met me at the door and explained the room.
Room: Has been talked about before. Very very nice.
Bathroom: Pretty over the top with what four ways to bathe. That toilet that comes to life and salutes you. Amazing. Without doubt Mori touches.
Tv: Lots of channels with numerous English speaking.
Internet: This is comp.. I tried the wire but it did not work. On wireless now.
Change: HSBC atm at PVG upon arrival.
SIM: I still have cards left from my trip to Xian. But have found Skype so make calls with that. That service is amazing if you have not tried it.
Local markets: On B1 there are lots of spots. I ordered to go pork katsu miso style from I think Tokyo Dinind which included tofu, rice, pickles, salad and soup. Cost 49 RMB. There is also a Lawsons. Two bottles of Coke less than 1 USD. Amazing. On B2 there is a open style intl. restaurant set up.
Negatives: As stated the place seems a little stiff. Not warm. Maybe it shows after having just come from the Westin Kyoto.
Closing: Will add if necessary. The place feels comfortable and I can see why anyone would love being here. The clouds have come in hence my reason to not request that room change. Regards from Shanghai.
